SUCCESSFUL SALON MERCHANDISING TO INCREASE SALES AND ATTRACT NEW CUSTOMERS

You’ve probably heard the term ‘salon merchandising’ flying around everywhere, but how much do you know about it and the benefits for your salon? Salon merchandising is a great strategic way to increase your retail sales and attract customers, whilst also ensuring your salon is visually appealing.
For this blog we’ve put together our top business tips, along with some things you should consider when merchandising your salon.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT
Firstly (and arguably most importantly), keep your salon tidy always! Your salon is a reflection on YOU and your business, and a messy salon is never a good look. It’s important to remember that the appearance of your salon goes a long way in retaining customers and also attracting new ones. You’ve all heard of ‘dress for the job you want to attract’… now you need to ‘dress your salon for the customer you want to attract.’
Make sure your product shelves are well-lit. There’s nothing worse than a dark salon and your clients won’t be drawn to any of the products.
Ensure products are always facing the right way! This one seems super obvious, but during a busy Saturday in the salon, it’s easily missed. Just imagine how unappealing a shelf full of products would look to you when you’re browsing in a shop… that’s exactly how your clients would feel in your salon too. It looks messy and just generally off-putting.
BE STRATEGIC
Display products from left to right and in an order that makes sense to the customer e.g. the order would you use them.
For example, in a nail salon: Base Coat, Colour, Top Coat..
In a hair salon: Shampoo, Conditioner, Treatment…
Make sure there are tester products for your clients to touch, smell and play with the product. They are far more likely to buy something if they’ve had to chance to test it themselves.
Utilise the opportunity for impulse buys by strategically placing ‘mini’ products near the counter. Customers will often just pick them up as they wait to pay.
KEEP YOUR TOP-SELLERS PROMINENT
Your best-sellers should always be displayed front and centre of your salon in order to maximise on your sales. This also gives you a talking point to ‘sell’ these products to your clients, without coming across too salesy.
Utilise POS to draw attention to products and offers you want to highlight. POS is generally eye-catching and should result in further sales for you.
SWITCH THINGS UP
Don’t become complacent – keep switching up your displays regularly to keep customers intrigued.
Finally, add new products and showcase them! Just like you might scroll on your favourite clothing website to see what’s ‘new in’… your clients want to see what’s new at the salon too. Trust us, they’ll be super excited and more likely to purchase something that’s brand new.
We hope this blog has helped you with how you approach your salon marketing and that you've had some food for thought on how to correctly set up your merchandising displays.
