Q: What is HEMA, and why does everyone want to know if it's in their nail products?
A: HEMA, or hydroxyethyl methacrylate, is an acrylic ingredient that's been known to cause allergic reactions. It's commonly found in gel nail polish systems that are made by third-party manufacturers. CND™ Shellac™ is formulated without HEMA. Bis-HEMA and Di-HEMA are only partial names of the chemicals of two oligomers that are vital to other properties within the CND™ Shellac™ formula. Bis-HEMA and Di-HEMA are entirely different to free-monomeric HEMA (also known as HEMA), which as mentioned before is not added to CND™ Shellac™. Which makes it a safe choice for both nail professionals and their clients. 

It is worth noting that HEMA isn’t the bad guy here. HEMA has been safely used in nail products for decades under the right guidelines. If HEMA is not used in a product then another adhesion property will have been used in its place to help adhere the product to the natural nail. If you specifically need HEMA free because you or a client has a HEMA allergy, then that would be different circumstances.
